Generalized Anxiety Disorder Symptoms
There are a wide range of physical symptoms that accompany the worry, below is a list but it is not limited to:
Headaches, nausea, muscle tension, muscle aches, muscles twitches, difficulty swallowing, trembling, twitching, palpitations, irritability, sweating, insomnia, jaw pain, hot flashes, numbness, fidgeting, ringing in ears, urgency to urinate, stomach upset, difficulty breathing or the feeling of needing to force yourself to breathe, smothering sensations, tightness of chest,and choking sensations.
There is also a wide range of mental symptoms, this is a list but is not limited to:
Fear of going crazy or snapping, racing thoughts, inability to concentrate, intrusive thoughts, repetitive thoughts, obsessional thinking, incessant thoughts or mind chatter, head noise, feelings of unreality known as Depersonalization or Derealization, spaced out feelings, trapped in your mind feeling, underlying anxiety, apprehension or fear, afraid of everything, difficulty thinking, speaking or following conversations and forgetfulness.
There is also a wide range of emotional symptoms that accompany GAD, here is a list but is not limited to:
Always feeling angry and lack of patience depression, emotionally blunted, flat, or numb, emotional “flipping”, everything is scary, frightening, feeling down in the dumps, feeling like things are unreal or dreamlike, feel wrong: You, or parts of you, feel wrong, different, foreign, odd, or strange, frequently being on edge or ‘grouchy’ frequently feel like crying for no apparent reason, have no feelings about things you used to, low mood, energy dip, exhaustion, normal challenges of life seem harder to deal with, feeling super emotional, cry for no apparent reason, everyday stresses seem more serious or insurmountable,not feeling like yourself, detached from loved ones, emotionally numb, underlying anxiety, apprehension, or fear, you feel like you are under pressure all the time.
A person with GAD can have a few or all of the symptoms above and must have them for at least 6 months consistently before being diagnosed with GAD. Symptoms can also overlap with serious physical ailments so any new symptoms should always be discussed with your doctor
